Coimbatore Don Bosco Anbu Illam (DBAI) started a programme of action for the rehabilitation of street children, which was launched for the first time in Coimbatore City. It focused on rag pickers in the city and provided shelter at night for these children in order to protect them from anti-social elements in 1991.
